Nielsen had spent decades as the trusted name in audience measurement. But the business was evolving beyond reporting how many people watched into a Media Intelligence Partner that could explain what audiences watch, do and feel across every screen.
As Official Media Intelligence Supplier for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Nielsen had the perfect global stage to make that transformation visible. How could it show clients that there was far more to Nielsen than the final viewing figures?

Introducing The Game Behind The Game: a campaign built around every fan, reaction and media moment happening beyond the match itself.
Because every play creates data. Nielsen turns that data into intelligence, helping advertisers, agencies and media partners understand what is resonating and respond while the game is unfolding – not after the final whistle.

Fight or Flight created a distinctive campaign identity inspired by the speed and intensity of elite sport.
Oversized typography and expressive motion brought pace and energy to every execution. An AI-led photography system used abstraction and motion blur to capture the emotion of football without relying on players or licensed imagery.
The flexible identity united everything from social, video and thought leadership to the World Cup microsite, events, merchandise and hospitality. It appeared across Possible, Cannes Lions and Nielsen’s World Cup suites in Los Angeles and New York, creating one recognizable visual language at every stage of the customer journey.

The Game Behind The Game generated nearly 120,000 social impressions with a 14.26% average click-through rate. The World Cup hub attracted 3,775 page views and 897 content downloads, with 47% coming from director-level audiences and above.
More than a World Cup activation, The Game Behind The Game gave Nielsen’s transformation a distinctive identity – repositioning the business from a company that measures audiences to a strategic partner that helps brands understand and act on them.
